on the Company Defaults screen, when adding my control accounts for payroll, the first field is called "payroll type". What is that?

the Payroll Type is a way of grouping payroll control accounts. For instance, some companies have different payroll tax accrual and expense accounts for different departments in the company. Or you may have an *administrative* group of payroll accounts and another set for your *field* payroll. This allows for that.
