I'm sure there are other solutions, but this is one that I've seen used. How about setting up a cost code with the same number as the one with the change order, and *suffixing* "CO" on the end of the cost code. For example, say you have a cost code 0310301 that has a change order associated with it. You could set up a new cost code 0310301CO that you could code all costs for the change order.
